The results of this work will be of great help <strong>to contribute to the standardization in the pre-analytical stage<\/strong> of the studies and advise researchers when using human samples in their projects.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3105 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isciiibiobanksbiomodels.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/Foto-Scientific-Reports-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"583\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.isciiibiobanksbiomodels.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/Foto-Scientific-Reports-scaled.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.isciiibiobanksbiomodels.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/Foto-Scientific-Reports-980x476.jpg 980w, https:\/\/www.isciiibiobanksbiomodels.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/Foto-Scientific-Reports-480x233.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1200px, 100vw\" \/><em>From left to right, Fernando G\u00f3mez-Romano, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Carrillo-Avila, Margalida Esteva-Socias and Cristina Villena, authors of the paper together with Alicia Loreto.<\/em> [\/caption]<\/p>\n<p>This work has been coordinated by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/biobancopulmonar.ciberes.org\/\">CiberES Biobank Pulmonary Platform<\/a> <\/strong> in The IdISBa with the participation of the Biobank of the SSPA in the framework of the <strong>OPTIMARK project of the RNBB, <\/strong>a project that has opened new lines to be explored in the young discipline &#8220;Science of the Especimen&#8221;<em>(Biospecimen Research of<\/em> the Especimen).<\/p>\n<p>The authors have evaluated the <strong>quality of lung tissue RNA<\/strong> from 20 patients (excess surgery and organ donations) that were stored simultaneously with four widely used conservation <strong>methods<\/strong> in pathological anatomy services, biobanks and research groups <em>(later<\/em>RNAs, immediate freezing, freezing in OCT blocks and formol-paraffin fixation).<\/p>\n<p>The results obtained in this study will allow researchers to advise on selecting the types of biological samples to be used in their projects, depending on the technique they want to carry out. Therefore, they will help to <strong>accelerate the actual application of the knowledge generated<\/strong> and thus benefit patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;Biospecimen science&#8217;, an emerging discipline<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This study is part of the <strong>emerging discipline called <em>Biospecimen Science,<\/em><\/strong>which focuses on studying how pre-analytical factors can alter the quality of samples and thus contribute to solving one of the main problems of current biomedical research: the irreproducibility of the results of many studies.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the authors have focused on studying <strong>how the conservation method can affect the quality of RNA<\/strong> derived from human tissue samples and, therefore, the results obtained, since very rarely samples of fresh tissue are available, which would be the ideal study material.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La importancia de la calidad de las muestras<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>La investigaci\u00f3n claramente traslacional est\u00e1 orientada hacia la medicina personalizada y el uso de terapias dirigidas. Para ello se necesitan validar nuevas herramientas y biomarcadores que requieren un gran n\u00famero de muestras humanas (procedentes de excedentes diagn\u00f3sticos) con informaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica asociada.
