BIOFAB – Joint Research Unit in Biomedical Design and Manufacturing

The Joint Research Unit in Biomedical Design and Manufacturing (BIOFAB) is a joint research and development unit created to carry out research, development, and innovation activities in the field of biomedical design and manufacturing, an area within the discipline of biomedical engineering. BIOFAB makes all its knowledge, experience, and technology in additive manufacturing available to the medical and scientific community, both at ISABIAL and other public or private institutions, for biomedical research projects focused on surgical training and planning, medical or surgical instrumentation, clinical simulation, orthotics and prosthetics, and support products, among others.

Services

  • FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) Additive Manufacturing. This technology manufactures parts by melting and extruding filament that is deposited layer by layer in the printing area. See materials.
  • DLP (Digital Light Processing) Additive Manufacturing. This technology uses the principle of photopolymerization to create 3D models from UV-sensitive resins. See materials.
  • DICOM medical image segmentation with 3DSLICER software.
  • 3D modeling with FUSION360 or MESHMIXER software.
