IRIS-CC Biobank
The Institute for Research and Innovation in Life ans Health Sciences, resulting from the alliance of General Acute Hospitals, Sociosanitary, Primary Care, and Mental Health services in Central Catalonia, has a biobank authorized by the Department of Health in October 2023 and registered in the National Biobank Registry of the Carlos III Health Institute (B.0002123). It houses collections of biological samples of human origin, along with associated data, for biomedical research purposes, and is organized as a platform to support research with criteria of quality, order, and purpose.

- Technical and scientific advice
- Registrarion and custody
- Management of biobank-type collections, projects and research line (samples, data and associated documentation).
- Registration of collections from the research line in the National Biobank Registry (Carlos III Health Institute)
- Storage and preservation of biological samples (-80ºC)
- Real- time monitoring of cooling equipment. 24 – hour service for alarm response, incidents, etc.
- Preparation of historical reports for temperature control of cooling equipment
- Technical services
- Fluids:Processing, isolation of samples and aliquoting of their derivatives (whole blood, blood derivatives, urine, feces, tissue, etc).
- Tissues: Processing of frozen and paraffin – embedded tissues (paraffin block preparation, histological sections and microscopy) and histological and immunohistochemical staining.
- Transfer of samples
- Management of requests for biological samples and associated clinical data
- Receipt of requests
- Processing of requests to external committees (ethical and scientific)
- Support in the preparation of the necessary documentation
- Preparation and submission of Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) for biological material and associated data
- Preparation and shipment of samples and associated data to the requesters
- Highlighted collections
- Paraffin – embedded tissue samples, both normal and pathological, excess from diagnostic procedures, with a focus on the most prevalent neoplasms: colorectal, prostate, urinary bladder, breast and lung cancer.
- Endometrial carcinoma: fresh, frozen and paraffin – embedded tissue , both tumor and non-tumor.
- Breast carcinoma.
