Medical Additive Manufacturing Unit-CSIC
UFAM is the Medical Additive Manufacturing Unit of the Institute of Polymer Science and Technology (ICTP), part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). We combine research and additive manufacturing technology to develop personalized medical devices. We work within Spain’s largest public research organization, collaborating with companies, hospitals, and other research centers. This environment gives us access to advanced scientific infrastructure and multidisciplinary research groups in materials science, biomechanics, and polymer technology.
Services
We design and manufacture anatomical models for surgical planning, biocompatible and sterilizable surgical guides, training simulators, and we can validate implantable materials such as PEEK, as well as custom-made medical devices for each patient. We also undertake research projects on new applications of medical additive manufacturing and the development of new materials. The center is equipped with FDM, pellet extrusion, SLA, SLS, and other manufacturing technologies, along with equipment for the characterization of polymeric materials. We work with a quality system based on ISO 9001, adapted to healthcare applications, and we are in the process of obtaining a medical device manufacturing license to bring the clinical developments we produce all the way to end patients.
