FIBHGM

Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica Hospital Gregorio Marañón

HIV HGM BioBank is a specialized platform for research in infectious diseases, a pioneer in Spain (founded in 2004), created with the aim of contributing to advance in understanding of different pathologies through the management of biological material from patients all over Spain. HIV HGM BioBank is also a reference in paediatric research with participation in national/international networks (PENTA, EPIICAL, pTbRed). This structure and its repository have been a source of biological material for all the research groups integrated in the AIDS Research Network (Red RIS), national & international consortiums (CIBER BBN, CYTED, ERA-Net EuroNanoMedicine) and clinical trials (Janssen vaccine against COVID19)

Services

The HIV center stores 434,379 aliquots of 48,089 samples from 15,788 patients from all over Spain, which are grouped into 7 prospective longitudinal cohorts of HIV patients with defined characteristics (cohort of HIV-infected adults -CoRIS, long-term non-progressors, Elite controllers, Acute/recent infection PHI-RIS, Vertical transmission -CoRISpe, Rapid progressors & Hepatitis C (HCV) and HIV coinfection).
The HGM center stores 54,278 aliquots of 7,523 samples from 3,059 patients grouped into 7 prospective longitudinal cohorts of respiratory conditions, neonatology, endocrinology, oncology, rare diseases, infectious diseases (including COVID19 patients), and healthy donors.
Due to the extensive experience of the BioBanco HIV HGM staff and the services available in collaboration with the Molecular Immunobiology Laboratory (Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón), we can offer a wide list of general consulting services and advanced molecular, histological and cellular techniques, as:
• Extraction, purification and cryopreservation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC)
• Obtaining cell subpopulations (CD4+ lymphocytes, CD8+ lymphocytes, monocytes, dendritic cells, Treg…)
• Growth of cell lines without mycoplasma
• Immortalization of B lymphocytes
• Obtaining explants
• Flow cytometry
• ELISPOT
• Study of cytokines and chemokines
• DNA extraction from peripheral blood, PBSC, cell subpopulations, cell lines…
• DNA/RNA/protein extraction from tissue (frozen and paraffin embedded)
• Amplification of genomic DNA
• RNA extraction
• Processing frozen and paraffin-embedded tissues
• Histological staining
