Biobank of Hospital Clínic-August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Centre (HCB-IDIBAPS Biobank), Clinic Barcelona Research Foundation-IDIBAPS (FRCB-IDIBAPS)

The HCB-IDIBAPS Biobank is a centralized platform comprised of a multidisciplinary team of professionals with scientific backgrounds, clinical collaborators, technical specialists, documentalists, and data managers. Dr. Elías Campo leads the Unit, Dr. Aina Rodríguez serves as the Scientific Director of the Biobank, and Dr. Teresa Botta is the head of the Biobank platform. It is structured into three main areas: Neurological Tissue Bank, Tumor and Tissue Bank, and Biological Fluids Bank. The HCB-IDIBAPS Biobank coordinates the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of human biological samples and associated data to promote high-quality biomedical research. It offers specialized services for sample processing and characterization, coordination of multicenter collections and clinical trials, sample and data distribution, and technical and scientific advisory support for research projects.

Services

• Multicenter coordination, sample collection, and processing.
• Provision of samples and data for research projects:
o Neurological Tissue Bank (>2300 donors affected by diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, among others);
o Tissue and Tumor Bank (>1.8 million donors, including oncological, metabolic, respiratory, cardiovascular, infectious diseases, etc.);
o Biological Fluids Bank (>42,000 donors of hepatic, maternal-fetal, metabolic, respiratory, cardiovascular diseases, among others; additionally, 400 donors of ancient DNA -1st to 8th centuries AD).
• Centralization and standardization of documentation and protocols.
• Traceability of projects and clinical trials.
• Technical advice and support in experimental design and monitoring.
• Supply of kits, freezing, and cryopreservation of biological samples.
• Characterization of samples and quality controls.
• Cellular isolation protocols.
• Processing of blood derivatives, laser microdissection, tissue microarrays, and molecular isolations.
