Unidad HCB-IDIBAPS

The Biobank of Hospital Clínic (HCB) and Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (DIBAPS) is driven by the mission to promote and develop biomedical research by providing availability of biological samples and associated data to the scientific community, following scientific and technical best practices in accordance to the current legislation and its bioethical principles.

The Biobank HCB-IDIBAPS is divided into three functional areas (Neurological Tissue Bank, Tumour and Tissue Bank and Biological Fluids Bank) coordinated by one broad organisational unit which also ensures compliance with ISO9001:2015 certification.

Services

Supply of biological samples:

– Patients affected by neurological diseases and controls (format: paraffin, frozen, cryopreserved or fresh)

– Tissue samples from a wide range of pathologies, and also from normal tissue adjacent to the tumor (format: paraffin, frozen, cryopreserved or fresh)

– Serum, plasma, DNA and urine samples, as well as PBMC from controls and collections of different diseases (metabolic, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal and oncological, among others)

Technical and scientific evaluation:

– Review of patient consent forms

– Support in the development of experimental designs, for projects that involve human or animal samples.

– Design and interpretation of immunohistological studies

– Training for specialized teams

– Sample quality control programs

– Standardization of procedures related to the management and quality control of DNA samples

Services related to private collections and clinical trials:

– Assistance in the creation and management of new collections.

– Coordination of multicenter sampling: configuration of documentation and processing

– Storage, custody of samples and cryopreservation

Technical services:

– Sample processing:

Tissue sectioning (frozen and paraffin embedded)

Processing of donor nervous tissue and/or post-mortem neuropathological diagnosis

Isolation and aliquots of serum, plasma, buffy coat and urine

Purification and cryopreservation of PBMC and granulocytes

– Laser microdissection

– Tissue microarrays (TMA)

– Histological staining (Hematoxylin-Eosin stain, Masson’s trichrome, Luxol fast blue, Oil red, sirius red, immunostaning)

– Multihead microscope (multiviewer)

– High resolution full slide scanning

– Automated purification of DNA and/or RNA from fluid and tissue samples
