PLATFORM ISCIII
BIOMODELS AND BIOBANKS
The ISCIII Biobanks and Biomodels Platform is an initiative of the Carlos III Health Institute.
The Coordination team has organised the Platform’s structure into four scientific-technological HUBS, which include: Biobanks, Organoids, Animal Models and 3D Printing. This structure makes it possible to manage and supply biological samples of human origin and associated clinical data. Furthermore, in the interest of promoting and incrementing scientific-technological resources in biomedical research, the PISCIIIBB’s services include organoids, animal models and 3D printing.
The ISCIII Biomodels and Biobanks Platform constitutes the Spanish national node in the BBMRI-ERIC European Research Infrastructures Consortium. Spain joined this infrastructure in 2021 as an observer member. Following the consolidation of interest from the national scientific community, the agreement formalizing Spain’s accession as a full member was signed on May 19, 2025. This integration strengthens Spanish participation in one of the most important research networks in the European Union, dedicated to excellence in the use of biobanks and biomolecular resources.
